Baklava

Baklava is a famous greek dessert made with filo sheets or pastry sheets layered with nuts and filo sheets , its sweetened with sugar and honey syrup and cinnamon.
       


Ingredients:
filo sheets: 8-10 sheets
cinnamon powder- 1tsp
sugar- 1 tbsp
Nuts(pistachios,walnuts)- 1 cup
200 gm of melted butter

 For Syrup
 1cup of honey
 1 cup of castor sugar
 2 cinnamon quills
 2 cups of water

Method:

  • Preheat the oven at 200deg



  •            Combine nuts, sugar and cinnamon powder.
  •           Place filo sheets it on the baking tray topped with baking sheet.

    • Melt the butter and brush    one filo sheets  with butter, cover it with another filo sheets.
    • Repeat the same process of layering  till 5 filo sheets, then top it with nut mixture.
    • Now cover the nut mixture with another filo sheets, continue with butter and filo sheets for three layers.
    • Score  the top  layers for enabling easy to cut into pieces.
    • Be careful not to cut right down to the base.
    • Keep it refrigerated for half- an hour.
    • Now bake it for 30 minutes at 200 deg temperature.
    • Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup. In a saucepan combine water and castor sugar in a medium heat stirring continuously till the sugar is completely dissolved.
    • Add the cinnamon quills, simmer it for 5 minutes.
    • Add honey and simmer it for 2-3 minutes or until the syrup gets thickened.
    • Let the syrup cool for 5 minutes.
    • Once the baklava is done ladle the syrup(strain it)over the hot baklava so it would absorb the sweetness.
    • Serve with chopped pistachios on top of it.
