Hummus is an Arabic word
(حمّص ḥummuṣ)
meaning "chickpeas," and the complete name of the prepared spread in
Arabic is حمّص بطحينة ḥummuṣ bi ṭaḥīna, which means
"chickpeas with tahini". Spellings of the word in English can be
inconsistent. "Hummus" is the standard spelling in American
English, while "houmous" is common in British English.
This interesting recipe was shared by my friend who had it in a Lebanese restaurant in Dubai. Thank you Hazeena
It is a food dip or spread made from cooked,
mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon
juice, salt and garlic. It is served as an appetizer and dip, Hummus is scooped
with flatbread such as Pita. Also as an accompaniment to falafel, grilled
chicken, fish, or eggplant. Garnishes
include chopped tomato, cucumber, coriander, parsley, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms,
whole chickpeas, olive oil, avocado.
It is ideal for weight watchers, you can serve the dip with freshly sliced raw vegetables like cucumber, carrots, capsicum, pita bread, sauteed mushrooms and cauliflower.
You can as well use it as bread spread.
