Ingredients:
1/2 cup moong dhal
1 tbsp of oil
2 tomatoes
2 shallots
1 carrot
1 medium sized potato
1/2 tbsp tamarind paste , water as needed for consistency
pinch of turmeric powder
salt to taste
1 sprig of curry leaves
1 tbp of chopped coriander leaves
To grind:
1 tbsp of split dhal/ channa dhal
1 tsp of urud dhal
1 tsp of coriander seeds
1/2 tsp of saunf
2 shallots
1/2 tomato
3 dried chilli
Temper:
1 tbsp of oil or ghee
1/2 tsp of mustard
5-8 shallots
2 dry chilli
pinch of hing
Method;
- Pressure cook the moong dhal, and mash it well. Boil carrot and diced potatoes.
- In a kadai dry roast channa dhal, urud dhal, coriander seed and saunf, chilli
- now drizzle some oil in the same kadai and roast shallots, tomato until brown(don't burn it) and grind it to a paste.
- In a kadai heat 1 tbsp of oil ,add shallots, 2 chopped tomatoes and saute them well, tip in carrots, potatoes with turmeric powder and toss them well .
- Now add tamarind paste, grinded masala with enough water , boil them for 2 minutes.
- Add the mashed dhal and let them boil , until thickens. and reach its consistency.
- Temper , heat oil in a kadai , add mustard, shallots, chilli and hing. Add it the sambar.
- Garnish with curry and coriander leaves.
