Plantain / valzakkai spicy fry

 Plantain is raw banana and we(South Indians) use it in different ways, fry it , sauted with coconut sauce, or can be mixed with rice( valzakkai podi) , slice it and fry it to make chips.  All parts of Banana plant is used for cooking,  its flower( valzai poo VADA/ patties) , its stem( for kootu/ curry or just sauted ), raw banana( podimas, spicy fry, chips,  podi mixed with rice ) and ripened banana as you all know we can eat it as such (YUMMY)!!
                                           





Ingredients:

2  raw banana/ plantain
1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
1 tbsp of corn flour
2 tsp of red chilli powder(according to your taste)
1 1/2 tbsp of oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
pinch of hing
salt to taste

Dry roast and grind


1/2 tbsp of  urud dal
1/2 tsp of saunf
1 tsp of coriander seeds

Method:


  • Cut the plantain into small  pieces .
  •                          
  • Roast and grind the urud dhal,saunf and coriander seeds.
  • Place cut plaintain in a bowl and smear it with salt,turmeric power, corn flour, chilli powder, roasted- grinde powder and leave it to rest for 20 minutes.
  •                             
  • Heat oil in a pan , splutter mustard seeds and hing,
  • Add the plaintain and fry it till becomes brown and little crisp.
  •                               
  • Serve as accompaniment with rice and rasam/sambar.
