Tomato kootu or its just tomato in yellow lentil sauce , it can be served with rice . I have a small veggie patch where I have few plants such as tomatoes, mint,broccoli. As I had many tomatoes thought of making this kootu as accompaniment for rice .
1/2 cup mung dhal/lentil
1 tsp of turmeric powder
salt for taste
1 tsp of yellow split dal/lentil
11/2 tsp of corriander seeds
2 tbsp of grated coconut
1 tsp of cumin
1 tsp of mustard seeds
1 tsp of urud dal
1 tsp of hing/asafotedia
few curry leaves
Ingredients:
7-8 tomatoes1/2 cup mung dhal/lentil
1 tsp of turmeric powder
salt for taste
Grinding:
2 red chilli1 tsp of yellow split dal/lentil
11/2 tsp of corriander seeds
2 tbsp of grated coconut
1 tsp of cumin
Tempering:
3 tsp of oil1 tsp of mustard seeds
1 tsp of urud dal
1 tsp of hing/asafotedia
few curry leaves
Method:
- Dry roast chilli,corriander seeds, yellow split lentil and grind with cumin,grated coconut,
- Pressure cook the lentil and mash it well.
- Chop tomatoes into cubes
- In a pan combine turmeric powder, cubed tomates, water(just enough to cover tomatoes ), salt to taste, boil these till tomatoes are cooked.
- Add the grinded paste and cook for a minute in simmer.
- Now tip in mashed lentil , stir well and cook for a minute.
- Switch off and add the tempering. Garnish with chopped corriander leaves.
