Rice rawa upma/ Broken rice porridge

Rice upma is a traditional recipe  , raw rice is broken like sooji / semolina and mixed , then it is combined with broken toor dhal and cooked like porridge.
                     

Ingredients:
1 cup of raw rice
1/2 cup of toor dhal
1 tsp of pepper

salt as needed
3 cup of water
2 tsp of oil
1 tsp of mustard seeds
1 tsp of urud dhal
1 tsp of split yellow dhal/channa dal
2 red chilli
1 tsp of hing
2 sprigs of curry leaves

Method:

  •  In a grinder mixer/processor powder coarsely rice,dhal ,pepperlike semolina.
  • In a pan heat oil add mustard , after it splatters chilli,  add urud dhal, channa dhal, curry leaves,hing.
  • Add water, salt
  • Once it reaches boiling point add little by little the semolina rice  and stir well.
  • Cook in simmer with coverd for 3-4 minutes, stirring in between.
  •                 
  • Serve with eggplant kothsu.
